Breakfast
Approx. 1/2 cup of oatmeal–prepared with quick oats and skim milk.
Apple
Hot tea
- Even though I made a huge bowl of the oatmeal (following the directions for one serving), I only ate about half a cup of it because it got really gummy really fast, since I did it in the microwave. Food challenge today: lunch at the favorite Mexican restaurant with my best friend. I’m planning to get the Speedy Gonzales, even though I know it isn’t core—because I WANT what’s on that plate, and I know if I don’t eat that for lunch, I’ll spend the rest of the day trying to kill the craving that denying myself that meal would create.
Lunch
“Speedy Gonzales” plate (1 enchilada, 1 taco, refried beans—which I only ate a couple of bites of, chips and salsa—but not many chips).
- I wore one of my pairs of size 24 jeans (!) that aren’t stretchy to lunch today. Not only did I feel good about being in them, but the slight snugness reminded me not to overdo it with the chips and salsa. And I have to say—for three big girls sitting at a table for a little more than an hour, the chip basket was still at least half-full when we left (and no, that wasn’t because it had been refilled). I don’t know how many points this meal was, and I don’t really care. Because it was good, it was satisfying, and it was cheap.
Supper
Small eye of round steak, pan seared then simmered in beef broth with sauteed onions for a few minutes
Green beans
Pomegranate
- I found out late this afternoon that one of my blood-pressure medications is not on the $10/generic/90-day prescription list anywhere (Kroger, Walmart, Walgreens)—at least not in the formulation in which my doctor prescribed it. So I had to call the doctor’s office, see if they could call in the prescription for the other formulation so that I didn’t end up having to pay more than $100 for the 90-day supply. I got a call around 5:30 that they were able to do that for me, so I can go pick that up tomorrow morning. Of course, that’s going to make it really tempting to pick up something for breakfast that I really shouldn’t be eating (powdered donuts, frozen pancakes, turnovers, cinnamon rolls…), so I’ll have to come up with an idea tonight of what I can fix for breakfast tomorrow morning so that I’m not tempted.

I just have to tell you…I went to a Thanksgiving “potluck” tonight, and I only had 1 plate’s worth of food, and didn’t overdo the desserts. Thanks for the inspiration to be MINDFUL of portion control, especially this holiday season.
